ELIZABETH BORNE´
Art has always infused Elizabeth Borné’s life. "I can’t take credit
for my ability. It’s just that I have developed it over the years,
which I really think is a responsibility when you are given a gift."
Her gift became apparent from an early age, with formal study
beginning at a summer session at the Art Institute of Chicago,
followed by a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Tulsa in
1950, which further refined her talents. In the early to mid-
fifties, being a full-time mother to four children occupied most of
her time, fitting in her painting whenever and wherever she could.
The work included painting, drawing, ceramics, costume and mask design.
Through the 1960’s and 1970’s Borné earned a master of fine arts
degree through studies at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock,
worked with the National Endowment for the Arts, continued to
experiment with various mediums, and began to show in gallery and
museum exhibitions. The next major move was to New Orleans where she
became a very successful designer and seller of Mardi Gras masks.
Later it was on to France for a couple of years of private study,
then a return to the states where she maintained a studio in
Philadelphia for fifteen years, as well as a permanent studio in
Northern Arkansas. It was during this time she developed her mature
style, and refined her preferred mediums of prismacolor pencil over
acrylic wash on paper, and oil on birch panel. She continues to live
and work in Northern Arkansas, and is widely represented in major
museum, private, and corporate collections.
